Who is the West County Tennis Association

The West County Tennis Association (WCTA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization contracted by Sonoma County Parks to manage the Ragle Ranch Park tennis courts. The WCTA does not receive funding from the County and is a 100% volunteer organization with no salaried staff.

Fund raising starting in 1985, which financed and built the four-court tennis facility at Ragle Ranch Regional Park. The WCTA signed a contract with the Sonoma County Parks Department that gave them exclusive rights to conduct youth and adult clinics, provide private tennis lessons, and to host USTA League events. This agreement stipulates the courts would be available for the public to show up and play tennis. That has been the case since the courts were dedicated in 1995.

Rich and Wanda Cardiff led the initial fundraising efforts and managed the Ragle Ranch Courts with the WCTA board. In 2026 Rich and Wanda decided to take a well deserved retirement from this considerable effort and have passed the racquet to the mostly new Board. All tennis players in West County owe Rich and Wanda an enormous debt of gratitude for creating the governnment/volunteer partnership that built the courts and has maintained them for the past 30 years.

The WCTA contract with Sonoma County defines facility maintenance including removing debris from the courts regularly, weeding, replacing wind screens, replacing the tennis nets, trimming the surrounding vegetation and the resurfacing of the courts every seven years. Right now the courts are starting to crack to the point that resurfacing is now needed. These are paid for with contributions from the tennis community.
